Status: Completed
Location: Villecien, FR
The Tent is part of an ongoing exploration into the architectural potential of provisional and often disregarded structures and constructions. Located in Burgundy on the grounds of a 17th century chateau, the Tent addresses the need for large, flexible spaces to host a range of events. Whereas the standardized event tent is often deployed temporarily, the Tent is conceived as a permanent structure. Industrial sliding door systems and polycarbonate panels replace the PVC walls typical of these temporary structures. Located in Burgundy on the grounds of a 17th century chateau, the Tent addresses the need for large, unprogrammed spaces to host a range of events throughout the year. An industrial sliding door system and polycarbonate panels open the tent to the surrounding landscape and emphasize the powder coated aluminum framework, unlike the typical PVC walls found in these tents that only seek to contain the space and conceal the structure. The opportunity of this project, then, is that of the customized banal, where the alteration or amelioration of an otherwise rigid, pre-determined system occurs through surface manipulation, material, fixtures, dividers, and color.
